On 20 September 2022, Uganda declared an Ebola disease outbreak caused by the Sudan ebolavirus species, after the confirmation of a case in Mubende district, the country’s first outbreak of this strain in over a decade. Our line list provided situational awareness during a critical time in the outbreak as authorities worked towards containment. This Ebola outbreak ended up ranking in the top 10 largest Ebola outbreaks ever recorded in terms of case magnitude with 164 cases (142 confirmed + 22 probable) and 55 confirmed deaths.

Uganda declared an outbreak of Ebola on Tuesday, September 20th after a case caused by the Sudan ebolavirus strain was confirmed in the Mubende district. The virus was detected in a 24-year-old male who presented with a high fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting blood and later died. (…)
