COVID-19
G.h Code: GHL2019.D11.RA01
A line list outbreak identifier is of the following form:Affected Area: Global
Affected Area provides the spatial reach of the outbreak.
Timespan: January 2020 - December 2023
Timespan provides the start and end date for data related to this outbreak.
Status: Inactive
Status refers to the status for data curation as Inactive or Active. Active outbreaks are currently being updated. Inactive outbreaks are no longer being updated. The repository contains dated records of curated COVID-19 cases from the early pandemic phase through 2023.
In late 2019, a novel coronavirus—later named SARS-CoV-2—was detected in Wuhan, China, causing a pneumonia-like illness that quickly spread across countries. The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic in March 2020. Global.health was launched in response, aiming to address critical gaps in the availability, standardization, and cross-border sharing of real-time, case-level epidemiological data. Our COVID-19 dataset includes over 100 million de-identified records from more than 100 countries and has informed academic research, public health decision-making, and global policy.

A mindful shift in focus
The pandemic is not over. But, our mission is evolving.
Global.health formed during the early stages of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in 2020 collating and making available open-access data for de-identified individual level case data. (…)
5 Reasons We Need Integrated and Detailed SARS-CoV-2 Case Data
In this post, we aim to illustrate why we built Global.health and make the case for sustainable and large-scale integration of genomic, clinical, and epidemiological data to protect our communities and prevent pandemics. (…)
Currently in development, launching early 2021.
