The repository contains dated records of curated Marburg cases from the 2023 outbreak in Equatorial Guinea. 

 

In February 2023, Equatorial Guinea reported its first outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD), a severe hemorrhagic fever with a high case fatality rate (CFR). The outbreak posed a significant public health threat, particularly in a low-resource setting. With 40 cases (17 confirmed and 23 probable) and 35 deaths (12 confirmed and 23 probable), it became the third deadliest MVD outbreak on record, with a CFR of 88%. Our line list and briefing report supported the generation of epidemiological insights throughout the outbreak.

Marburg in Equatorial Guinea: Curation Challenges in Tracking Viral Haemorrhagic Fever Outbreaks

 

On February 13th, 2023, a first-ever outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) was declared in Equatorial Guinea. The index case died January 7th, 2023. The Ministerio de Sanidad y Bienestar Social de la República de Guinea Ecuatorial (MINSABS) was notified one month later, on February 7th. (…)
