About the Project
Global.health is an ambitious initiative to deliver a cutting-edge, secure data and analytics platform to support pandemic and epidemic research and equitable decision making. We do so by building networks, software, and analytical tools that are open-source, easily deployable, and co-designed by our global teams.
Our mission is to enable rapid sharing of trusted public health data to advance the response to infectious diseases.

About the Role
Global.health uses Terraform-managed cloud services and infrastructure to achieve its goals. The team seeks an experienced engineer who can help plan, develop, execute, and manage cloud-based solutions. Candidates should bring a working command of cloud infrastructure concepts, strategies, and solutions that afford developers a modular and extensible scaffolding for current and future successes.
Minimum qualifications
- Demonstrated success using Terraform to create and modify cloud resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to relate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Ability to write good, clean, Python code
- Understanding of Git and GitHub workflows
- Complement team members skills through interacting with them in kind, intelligent, and diligent ways
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with networking problems
- Test-driven development
- Adherence to industry best practices, in particular clean code
Responsibilities
- Work with a globally distributed team of software engineers and data scientists to find, plan, and create cloud infrastructure that suits team needs (i.e. the right tools for each job)
- Document procedures for consumption by team members, external partner organizations, and academic audiences
- Evangelize best practices and support other engineers
- Provide and support monitoring and architectures to optimize system uptime and performance
- Create, maintain, and deploy AWS services, including Kubernetes clusters
- Assume ownership of Mongo databases (or others as they are introduced)
- Plan and develop software, including cloud infrastructure, from ideation through production
- Investigate issues to identify root causes and author fixes
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, location, and hiring institution. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Work location is flexible if approved by the hiring institution.
